Nestabilities Storage Idea

DSCN3011

Hi everyone!  Happy almost Friday!  Well, here at least.

You might recall a couple of months ago I showed you this box I was using to organize my Nesties.  The motivator was to make them more portable for taking to crops and just general ease of use.

It wasn’t long before I realized I needed to take this approach to another level.  I needed an indexing system.  I didn’t want a binder index though, because it would have been too big and bulky to carry around.

I found these self laminating sheets at my local Dollarama.  They’re approximately playing card size, and I decided this might be a good solution.

Here is how it all worked out.

This is a larger view of the storage box.  I picked it up at Michaels.  It does have a lid, but it’s removable and when I’m at home, I take it off.

I added index numbering tags to each of the sheets in the box and each sheet, on average can store 2 average size sets of Nesties.

These are the self laminating sheets that I mentioned earlier.  I went to the Spellbinders site and compiled pictures of all the sets that I owned, then put them into a Word document and printed them to a size that would fit the sheets.

In the end, it’s like a deck of cards.  Then I went and added coordinating index numbers to each of the cards.  Although they’re numbered, it really doesn’t matter if they get out of order.  I just flip through them like a deck of cards until I find one that I want to use, then go to the box and pull out the corresponding numbered sheet, and SHAZAM!  I have what I want in a fraction of the time!

My next issue was how to store them.  I kept my eye out at the Dollarama every time I was there to see if there was something that would be suitable.  Of course I wasn’t smart enough to bring one of the cards with me to check and see if it fits,so I had a couple of containers that I thought would work, but didn’t.

In the end, I found this a couple of days ago and it’s a perfect fit for the cards.  I found it in the tool isle.  It’s really intended to store screws and nails and bolts and such on a carpenters belt.  But we all know, that just about anything can be repurposed!

In the end, it works out very nicely because the case fits inside the box for transportation, and then clips nicely onto the side of the box when in use.

I’m finding that this is working out really well.  Now, if only I can get around to printing a list of the sets I already own so I can stop buying them again LOL

Hopefully this inspires you to organizing your Nesties or other things.

Thanks so much for stopping in!  Have a splendiferous day!

Awesome storage idea. I have been trying to do something like this as well and wanted to know what are the sheets that you are using to put the nesties on? They look like manilla folders. Are they manilla folders? Are they strong enough to hold the magnet and the nesties?

    Thanks

What an efficient system for organizing your Nesties. I would love to try it myself. One question. What is the maget paper on. What did you make the cards out of and what size are they. The whole system is the best I”ve seen yet. Thanks for sharing.

Carol, I used manilla folders to mount the magnet sheets on. The magnet sheets are from a local dollar store for photos and the size would depend on the size of the container. :)
